Carlito Hall, 21, a member of the notorious C17 gang in Thurrock, has been jailed for 20 weeks after repeatedly breaking a strict gang injunction designed to curb gang activity in the area.
The injunction, targeting the C17 gang, bans Hall and other members from key Thurrock locations including Grays town centre, local parks, Lakeside, and Grays Beach Riverside Park. It also prohibits wearing hoodies except in bad weather, associating with fellow gang members, and groups of two or more behaving in an intimidating manner in public.
Additional conditions require gang members to hand over all social media details to Essex Police. Some members are barred from being with girls under 16 years old. The injunction also outlaws making drill music videos that often feature weapons and threats.
Despite these strict restrictions, Carlito Hall was caught wearing a hooded top and found in possession of unregistered mobile phones. More seriously, he was found with items linked to drug dealing. At Chelmsford County Court, Hall’s repeated breaches of the injunction led to his prison sentence.
Hall, who lives on Lewis Avenue in London, has been responsible for disorder in Thurrock despite the injunction’s conditions.
The C17 gang, first identified by Essex Police’s Operation Raptor team in 2017, has been responsible for drug dealing and violence across Thurrock. Their influence covers Grays town centre, the town park, beach areas, and Lakeside.
Evidence reveals the gang exploits children by forcing them to run drugs, carry cash, or weapons. Younger members act as lookout “spotters” while others deal drugs. The gang also uses intimidation tactics to take over vulnerable drug users’ homes, a practice known as ‘cuckooing’, turning these properties into drug bases.
The gang’s violence is mainly driven by deadly rivalries with other crews and drug turf wars. Their drill rap videos, which often include weapons and threats, further fuel these conflicts.
