Shock has gripped the Barnsley community after three people were charged with murder following the death of 33-year-old Liam Green. Liam died after being hit by a car in the Cudworth area last Friday, 3 April 2026.

Emergency services rushed to Rose Tree Avenue just before 5pm on Friday after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a white Volkswagen. Tragically, Liam Green was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Monday 6 April 2026, police charged 60-year-old Mark Wigley, 38-year-old Sarah Louise Wigley, and 53-year-old Neil Shaw, all residents of Royston Road, Barnsley, with murder. The three suspects have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 7 April 2026.

The family of Liam Green issued a heartfelt tribute, saying, “We hope you’re at peace now. We all love you very much, sending you big hugs from your mam, sons, brother and family.” A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police confirmed, “Liam, who was the pedestrian, sadly died at the scene. His family is being supported by our officers.”

Additionally, a 33-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy who were arrested on suspicion of murder remain on bail as the investigation continues. Police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward to assist with the ongoing inquiry.
