Police rushed to a stabbing incident in Moreton Hall, Bury St Edmunds, at around 10.15pm on March 22. A man in his 40s was stabbed and subsequently taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. His condition has since been reported as stable.
Five suspects, all dressed in dark clothing and wearing face coverings, fled the scene quickly. Detectives believe the attack was targeted and have ruled out any ongoing danger to the wider community.
On April 2, Sebastian Smith, aged 47, was arrested in south east London and brought to Suffolk for questioning. Smith appeared charged at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on April 4. Additionally, a 44-year-old man from Brixton was released on bail following two arrests on suspicion of murder. A 38-year-old man is also on bail after being arrested on March 30 on the same charge.
Police have seized three Nissan vehicles believed to be connected to the attackers as part of their ongoing investigation. Officers are urging anyone with information to contact Bury St Edmunds Police, quoting reference 37/16423/26. Tips can be submitted via the police website, by calling 101, or through Crimestoppers.
Sebastian Smith is scheduled to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on May 5.
