Police have charged ten individuals after a series of protests on motorway gantries over the busy M25 in November 2022. The demonstrations caused widespread disruption and prompted a strong police response.
Between Monday 7 and Thursday 10 November 2022, protesters targeted junctions 4, 1A, and 1B on the M25, leading to significant traffic delays and safety concerns. Officers stopped and searched a vehicle near junction 1, detaining several protesters and confiscating climbing equipment used during the protests.
On Friday 11 November, five people were charged with conspiracy to commit public nuisance and appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court. Those charged include David Mann, 50, of Kerry Avenue, Ipswich; Cressida Gethin, 20, of The Southend 1, Herefordshire; Guido Wieser, 18, of Pentonville Road, London; Christopher Ford, 45, of Carlton Way, Cambridge; and Phoebe Plummer, 21, of Elms Road, London.
Earlier in the week, five additional individuals were charged with intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance. They are Pavel Sousek, 71, of Cornwall; Gaie Delap, 75, of Upper Cheltenham Place, Bristol, Somerset; Theresa Norton, 54, of Esplanade Gardens, Scarborough, North Yorkshire; Lucia Whittaker-de-Abreu, 33, of Arthur Street, Derby; and Molly Berry, 70, of Lower Icknield Way, Marsworth, Buckinghamshire.
All ten charged protesters are scheduled to appear in court in December 2022. The M25 protests caused major disruption across Kent, and police continue to take action against those involved in motorway demonstrations.
