West Midlands Police have named Kian Moulton, the 15-year-old boy sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of 12-year-old Leo Ross. The identity of Moulton, previously protected by child reporting rules, was revealed after a judge lifted the ban on February 10.
Last January, Leo Ross was viciously stabbed to death while walking through Trittiford Mill Park. CCTV footage captured Moulton cycling nearby shortly before the attack. After stabbing Leo, Moulton discarded the murder weapon in bushes beside a nearby stream.
Police have confirmed there is no known motive or connection between Moulton and Leo. In a disturbing act, Moulton convinced a passerby to call the police, falsely claiming he had found Leo. He also lied to officers at the scene before riding home as if nothing had happened.
Leo Ross later died from his injuries that same day. Detectives conducted an extensive investigation, reviewing hundreds of hours of CCTV and doorbell camera footage. This led to Moulton’s arrest at his home, where he refused to speak and arrogantly stated the murder weapon would not be found.
