Deadly Assault Shakes Littlehampton
A 17-year-old boy from Bognor Regis has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the brutal early-morning attack that killed 51-year-old Paul Lawrence. The violent incident happened just after midnight on 28 January on Gladonian Road. Paramedics rushed to the scene, but Mr Lawrence died from severe injuries. A post-mortem confirmed the cause of death.
Two Teens Arrested Over Fatal Brawl
- The guilty teen admitted causing Mr Lawrence’s death during a Portsmouth Crown Court hearing on 6 October.
- A second 17-year-old from Littlehampton faces charges including sending menacing messages and cannabis possession linked to the same case.
- Both youths remain unnamed due to their age.
Police Speak Out, Community Demands Action
Detective Chief Inspector Alex Campbell praised Mr Lawrence’s family for their bravery.
“Paul’s death has had a devastating impact on his loved ones and the community,” he said. “While nothing can undo what happened, I hope this conviction provides some comfort and a sense of closure for his family.”
The case exposes the growing problem of youth violence in Sussex. Police are teaming up with schools, families, and local groups to crack down on young offenders before more lives are lost.
Sentencing Looms in December
The convicted teen is currently out on bail but will face sentencing at Portsmouth Crown Court on 12 December. Community leaders vow to keep pushing against youth crime to protect the city’s streets.
