Emergency services rushed to Talehangers Close, Bexleyheath, at 9:30am today following reports of a suspicious man acting strangely.
Police found the man in the midst of a mental health crisis. He ran towards the Cricket Club on Park View Road, where he began to self-harm.
To prevent further injury, officers deployed a taser to subdue him before detaining him under the Mental Health Act.
The London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance arrived promptly. The man was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police are currently trying to contact his next of kin.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Talehangers Close at 09:28hrs after reports of suspicious behaviour. When police arrived, they found a man appearing to be in mental health distress. The man fled to Park View Road Cricket Club, began self-harming, and a taser was deployed to prevent further injury. He was detained under the Mental Health Act. The man was taken to hospital, and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. Officers are attempting to contact his next of kin.”
