A bomb hoax call caused a major emergency at Badbury Park Primary School in Swindon, forcing the school to evacuate and prompting a significant police response. The false threat created panic among pupils, staff, and local residents.
James Morgan, 36, from Rabley Wood View, Marlborough, was arrested on Tuesday, February 25, just one hour after the all-clear was given. On Wednesday, February 26, he was formally charged with communicating false information related to the incident.
The hoax led to a full evacuation of the school, with teachers, pupils, and nearby residents evacuated while a 200-metre safety cordon was established. Rainscombe Road was closed for several hours as officers conducted a thorough search of the area for any real danger.
Morgan has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, February 27.
Superintendent Steve Cox of Wiltshire Police commented on the incident: “Hoax calling is an offence we treat extremely seriously as it draws emergency workers away from legitimate incidents where there is a real risk to people’s lives. The rapid and thorough investigation from my officers demonstrates our intolerance to this sort of criminality.”
Wiltshire Police thanked the public for their patience during the incident and urged anyone with additional information to contact them on 101.
