Sussex Cop Charged with Rape of Teen Girl
PC Thomas Rendell Faces Serious Sex Offences
Shock waves hit Sussex Police as PC Thomas Rendell, 23, has been charged with raping a girl aged 13 to 15. The young officer also faces three other sexual offence charges involving the same teenager. Rendell is due to appear at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 4 February.
Disturbing Details of the Alleged Crimes
- Rape of a girl aged between 13 and 15
- Attempting to cause the girl to engage in penetrative sexual activity
- Engaging in penetrative sexual activity
- Engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with the girl
These crimes allegedly took place between 1 February and 30 June 2022.
Suspended and Under Investigation
Rendell wasn’t an active serving officer during the time of the alleged offences but was still part of the East Sussex division. He remains suspended while investigations are ongoing.
The case has been passed to the Independent Office of Police Conduct. Sussex Police’s Professional Standards Department is carrying out a local investigation, and misconduct proceedings will be considered after the criminal case concludes.
