A careless driver caused chaos on the A43 at Hulcote, resulting in two men being seriously injured following a terrifying collision involving a military Land Rover.
Crenguta Aruxandei, 44, of Northampton, was handed a six-month jail term, suspended for 18 months, after the incident that occurred on the morning of January 10, 2025.
Aruxandei was driving in the outside lane of the A43 dual carriageway when she cut sharply in front of a green military Land Rover Defender that was convoying nearby. The Land Rover driver swerved hard to avoid a crash but collided with the central reservation, causing the vehicle to flip multiple times.
The 36-year-old Land Rover driver was thrown from the vehicle and suffered a suspected fractured back. He was rushed to University Hospital Coventry for treatment. His 31-year-old passenger sustained a serious head injury and was treated at Northampton General Hospital.
In February, Aruxandei admitted to two counts of causing serious injury by careless driving, avoiding a jury trial. On April 8, Northampton Crown Court handed down her sentence.
Along with the suspended prison term, Aruxandei was banned from driving for 12 months and must pass an extended driving test before regaining her licence. She was also ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge.
Detective Constable Eleanor Hudson of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said, “Holding a driving licence is a privilege and a responsibility. There is no place on our roads for drivers who put lives at risk.”
Hudson added that Northamptonshire Police and its partners will continue to crack down on unsafe drivers to reduce serious injuries and fatalities on local roads.
