Richard Sherriff, 40, from Main Road, Little Haywood, Staffordshire, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison after being found guilty of raping a boy aged between 13 and 15. The offences took place between May 2008 and February 2009.
Sherriff was tried at Stafford Crown Court, where he was found guilty of rape. However, he was found not guilty of assault by penetration on the same victim during the same time period.
Detective Inspector Zoe Kelsall praised the victim’s courage in helping bring the case to court. She said, “I hope that this case demonstrates that although time has passed we will always remain committed to supporting victims and delivering justice.”
She added, “I want to pay tribute to the victim and the courage he demonstrated in helping us to bring this case before the courts. We will always do whatever it takes to bring offenders to justice, while ensuring victims and their families are offered the support they need.”
Staffordshire Police have urged anyone suffering from sexual abuse or who suspects abuse to come forward. They can be contacted on 101 to report incidents or seek help.
