Six men were arrested after a violent brawl erupted in Nottingham’s Talbot Street just before 3am on Friday, December 30, 2022. Police officers on patrol noticed a tense stand-off between two groups and intervened to separate them. Initially, no arrests were made as no offences had occurred at that time.
Moments later, a full-blown fight broke out. Officers acted quickly to break up the scuffle and arrested six suspects. During the arrests, three police officers were assaulted. One officer sustained a minor facial injury after being clawed, another was shoved in the face, and a third was kicked.
Details of the arrests and charges are as follows:
- An 18-year-old was arrested for affray and assaulting an emergency worker.
- A 19-year-old was held for affray, possession of a class B drug, and two assaults on emergency staff.
- A second 19-year-old was charged with affray and possession of a class A drug.
- A 20-year-old was detained on suspicion of affray.
Following CCTV reviews, two of the six men were released without charge. The investigation remains ongoing.
Sergeant Steve Willetts of Nottinghamshire Police commented, “This was a totally unacceptable incident and officers did well to quickly bring the disorder under control. We are frustrated to report several officers were assaulted while doing their job protecting the public. This violence will not be tolerated. We’ll take tough action against anyone involved in disorder or drug offences.”
