Shoplifter Stabs Security Guard in Preston – Jailed for Over 22 Years

Preston has been rocked by a savage attack as Andrzej Mikulski, 27, was locked up for 22-and-a-half years after plunging a kitchen knife into a security guard outside a B&M Bargains store.

Knife Attack During Shoplifting Dash

On 26 February, Mikulski was caught red-handed nicking goods from B&M on Carlisle Street in Preston city centre. The security guard, a man in his 40s, chased after him, fearing a theft. The chase turned violent when Mikulski stabbed the guard in the thigh with a 19cm kitchen knife, nearly severing an artery.

Quick Police Response Saves Life

  • Three police officers rushed to the scene and applied tourniquets to stop the bleeding.
  • The victim was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital for emergency surgery.
  • Consultant vascular surgeons confirmed the man narrowly escaped a life-threatening injury.

Criminal Caught Within the Hour

Less than an hour later, armed police arrested Mikulski on Edward Street. He was covered in blood, carrying the knife and a backpack. Eyewitnesses identified him without doubt.

Crime Spree Ends in Heavy Sentence

This violent stabbing capped a spree of crimes on 25 and 26 February that involved:

  • Robbing a laptop-filled rucksack at knifepoint
  • Multiple shop thefts
  • Stealing a pedal cycle

Mikulski admitted robbery, attempted robbery, four thefts, and three counts of carrying a blade in public. In August, a jury found him guilty of wounding with intent at Preston Crown Court. He refused to appear for sentencing and remains in custody.

Detective Hails Heroic Police Efforts

“Andrzej Mikulski showed brutal intent to knife a man just to escape with stolen goods from B&M Bargains.” “Thanks to the swift action of our police officers and paramedics, plus expert surgeons at Royal Preston Hospital, we saved an innocent life.” “This violent criminal will now be off the streets for a very long time, thanks to our dedicated investigation team.”

Jail term details: Mikulski must serve at least 17 years before being eligible for parole.
