Perry Coulson, 39, from Lesney Gardens, Rochford, has been convicted of murdering 32-year-old Dominic Clark-Ellingford. The jury at Basildon Crown Court delivered a unanimous verdict on Friday, 21 July, after an intense seven-day trial.
On the morning of 25 November 2022, police were called to a property on Lesney Gardens following reports of a serious assault. Dominic Clark-Ellingford was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers found Coulson sitting in a car outside the house, with his clothes stained with blood. Coulson later went to a neighbour’s home for help and contacted his mother, saying, “He is dead, I’m sorry,” referring to Dominic.
The investigation, carried out by the Essex and Kent Serious Crime Directorate, revealed that Coulson and Dominic had known each other for nearly 20 years and had recently grown closer as friends. Coulson refused to speak during police interviews after his arrest. On 27 November, he was charged with murder and remains in custody. Sentencing is scheduled for 11 August at Basildon Crown Court.
Detective Chief Inspector Julie Gowen said, “This was a horrendous assault, where a father of two lost his life. Our Serious Crime Directorate have dedicated hundreds of hours to secure justice for Dominic’s family. I hope today’s conviction offers them some closure.”
Dominic was remembered by his family as a loving son, brother, uncle, and devoted father who cherished every moment with his two young children. He enjoyed adventurous days out, board games, and music, and was training to become a counsellor to help those battling addiction. The family expressed their gratitude to Essex Police for their commitment and hope that justice will help them begin healing from their devastating loss. Dominic’s children now face an uncertain future without their cherished dad.
