At 9.40am on December 10, 2021, police were called to a disturbance on Woodhead Road in Prudhoe. Officers discovered 79-year-old Roy Clayton with a serious neck injury that appeared to be the result of an assault.
Despite medical efforts, Roy Clayton sadly died in hospital four days later.
Following months of investigation, 49-year-old Gary Anderson, also from Woodhead Road, has been charged with manslaughter. He is scheduled to appear before Newcastle magistrates on November 16.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said, “This is a serious incident that has left Roy’s family absolutely devastated. Our thoughts remain with them, and we continue to offer all the support they need.”
The spokesperson added, “We thank Roy’s family and the wider community for their cooperation and patience over the past 10 months. With a suspect charged and court proceedings underway, we urge everyone to avoid speculation on social media or in the community that could affect the case.”
