Filmon Andmichaen, 31, who was convicted of murdering his six-months pregnant ex-girlfriend in Birmingham, has died in prison. Authorities confirmed his death at HMP Full Sutton in East Yorkshire in July 2025, less than a year after he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The brutal killing shocked the Birmingham community. In August 2023, Andmichaen attacked Liwam Bereket, 26, in her flat in Ladywood. The court described the attack as a “sustained and cruel assault on a defenceless woman and her unborn child.”
In 2024, Andmichaen was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 27 years.
A spokesperson for the Prison Service said, “HMP Full Sutton prisoner Filmon Andmichaen died in custody in July 2025. As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will carry out an independent investigation.”
The cause of death has not been disclosed. The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO) is now leading the investigation, following standard procedures for all deaths that occur in prison custody.
