Murder probe launched after Bournemouth woman dies from brutal attack

Detectives have opened a murder investigation following the death of 25-year-old Hayley Wall, who suffered serious head injuries in a shocking assault in Bournemouth.

Woman found injured outside supermarket

At around 10.28pm on Tuesday 13 December 2016, Dorset Police were alerted by ambulance crews that a local woman was found seriously injured outside Charminster Supermarket on Charminster Road. The victim was later identified as Hayley Wall.

The attack was linked to an earlier alleged assault at a nearby home on Shelbourne Road. It is believed Hayley managed to leave that address and made her way to the supermarket before emergency services were called.

Hayley dies in hospital, murder investigation underway

Hayley was rushed to hospital with critical head wounds but tragically died in the early hours of Thursday 22 December 2016. Her family have been informed and Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team has now taken over the case.

Christopher Wall, 58, from Bournemouth, has been charged with wounding with intent and is due in Bournemouth Crown Court on 19 January 2017. The victim and accused were known to each other. A 44-year-old man initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been released with no further action.

Police seek vital witnesses and CCTV footage

“I urge anyone who witnessed or heard the incident on Shelbourne Road to come forward,” said senior investigating officer Neil Devoto. “In particular, I want to speak to three women who cared for Hayley outside the supermarket between 9pm and 10.30pm before the ambulance arrived. We have released a CCTV image to help identify them.”

Officers also want to speak to anyone who saw Hayley walking from Shelbourne Road to Charminster Road. The public are reminded that legal proceedings are active and no further comment will be made to protect the integrity of the trial.
