Met Police Officer Faces Assault and Strangulation Charges After Off-Duty Incident
Officer Denies Serious Allegations
PC Mahad Abdalla, 26, a serving officer with the Metropolitan Police’s Territorial Support Group, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this week. Abdalla denies charges of assault and non-fatal strangulation from an alleged off-duty incident. Known from the BBC documentary The Met: Policing London, where he was seen on duty in Ealing, Abdalla now finds himself caught up in a legal storm.
Suspended and on Strict Bail Conditions
The Chiswick-based officer was arrested over the weekend and subsequently suspended from duty as the investigation continues. At court, Abdalla pleaded not guilty to both charges. District Judge Louise Balmain granted him conditional bail with stringent restrictions:
- Must stay at his registered address
- No contact, direct or indirect, with the complainant
- Must avoid Finchley area
- Curfew from 10 pm to 7 am with electronic tagging
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 24 at Harrow Crown Court.
Investigation and Public Scrutiny Ongoing
The Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards is conducting an ongoing inquiry. Meanwhile, a woman involved in the incident has been safeguarded. The Met has been approached for comment but is yet to respond. This case raises serious questions about police conduct and threatens to impact public trust in London’s police force.
