Robert Ewing, the man convicted of murdering 15-year-old Paige Chivers in 2007, has been found dead in prison. Paige disappeared without a trace in 2007, and although her body was never recovered, she was officially declared dead following a 2016 inquest.
Ewing, aged 68, was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2015 at Preston Crown Court. During the trial, the court was presented with disturbing details of how Ewing targeted vulnerable Paige for his own sick gratification before killing her when she threatened to expose him.
A Prison Service spokesman confirmed that Ewing was found dead in his cell on 4 November. His death marks the closing of a tragic chapter that deeply affected the local community.
At sentencing, Mr Justice Jeremy Baker described Ewing as “intelligent” and “devious,” calling the crime a “carefully planned and executed murder.” The judge also branded Ewing as “devious and cold-hearted.”
