PC Lewis Rollins, attached to the Metropolitan Police’s Central West Command Unit, has been found guilty of assault by beating after a trial held at Southwark Crown Court.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 18 May, when police responded to a report of an assault inside a residential property in Balham. At the time, Rollins was off duty and initially attempted to conceal his identity upon arrest. Following the arrest, he was charged and immediately suspended from duty.
On Wednesday, 20 November, the court found Rollins guilty of assaulting a woman but acquitted him of charges related to intentional suffocation and actual bodily harm against another victim. Sentencing is scheduled for March 2025.
Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah, who oversees policing in Central West London, condemned Rollins’ behaviour, stating, “PC Rollins’ actions are completely unacceptable and at odds with the Met’s values. I commend the women who have demonstrated extreme strength and bravery throughout this investigation.”
The Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards continues to conduct a misconduct inquiry into Rollins’ conduct.
