Nottingham was shaken in April 2022 when 33-year-old father Ricardo Cotteral was brutally stabbed on Broad Street, Hockley. Despite attempting to flee, Ricardo was relentlessly pursued by attackers Malcolm Francis, Daniel Francis, and Richard Anderson, who inflicted fatal wounds. Ricardo collapsed and died on the pavement, leaving the local community in shock.

In 2023, the Francis brothers, Anderson, and getaway driver Ijah Lavelle Moore were convicted of murder, bringing some measure of justice for the tragic killing.

However, the repercussions of the crime extended further. Elisha Faulkner, 30, and her 64-year-old mother Julie Faulkner, both from Birmingham, admitted to hiding Malcolm Francis for five weeks following the murder. Nottingham Crown Court sentenced Elisha to three years in prison and Julie to two and a half years on 2 March.

Additional individuals were also caught up in the cover-up. Kimberley Tomlinson, 31, of Olton Avenue, Nottingham, received a two-year suspended sentence after being convicted of assisting an offender. Julian McDonald, 35, from Thurcaston Road, Leicester, was also found guilty of assisting an offender and is due to be sentenced later this month.
