Stephen Carrick joined the Metropolitan Police in 2001 and became an armed officer with the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command in 2009. Despite his role, Carrick was involved in a series of serious crimes that went unaddressed for years.
The Met Police have issued an apology after it was revealed that Carrick was connected to nine separate incidents spanning from 2000 to 2021. These allegations included rape, domestic violence, and harassment, with nearly all victims being women.
Shockingly, Carrick faced no criminal charges or misconduct findings throughout his police career. This failure to act has drawn significant criticism towards the Metropolitan Police.
In response, police leadership across England and Wales has initiated a comprehensive review of all officers against national databases, with a deadline set for the end of March.
Last month, Carrick pleaded guilty to the charges and has since been labelled one of the nation’s most prolific sex offenders. Following his conviction, he was dismissed from the police force.
The Metropolitan Police are now under intense scrutiny for their failure to address Carrick’s crimes earlier, leaving victims without justice for many years.
