The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has launched a fresh investigation targeting individuals suspected of aiding Mohamed Al Fayed’s alleged crimes. This new probe follows a public appeal for victims to come forward, which has resulted in a significant increase in allegations.
Since the appeal, 90 new victims have come forward, with some reporting multiple offences. The Met’s specialist Complex Investigation Team (CIT) is reviewing these claims in collaboration with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to identify all reasonable leads.
Detectives are not only focusing on Mohamed Al Fayed himself but are also investigating several individuals who may have helped or concealed his alleged wrongdoing. The Metropolitan Police are committed to pursuing anyone complicit in these serious offences.
Officers are conducting a thorough review of over 50,000 pages of past evidence, including victim statements. They are applying new investigative techniques to uncover any missed opportunities from previous inquiries.
Although no charges were brought against Mohamed Al Fayed before his death, the Met acknowledges that earlier victim support was insufficient. Two women have filed complaints regarding investigations carried out in 2008. These complaints have been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) to ensure full transparency.
Commander Stephen Clayman of the Specialist Crime Command said, “I recognise the bravery of every victim-survivor who has come forward to share their experiences, often after years of silence. This investigation is about giving survivors a voice, despite the fact that Mohamed Al Fayed is no longer alive to face prosecution. However, we are now pursuing any individuals suspected to have been complicit in his offending, and we are committed to seeking justice.”
The Metropolitan Police have pledged to handle the case with the utmost integrity to rebuild trust and provide closure for victims.
