Predator Jailed for Sex Attack on Margate Seafront

A man has been locked up for sexually assaulting a woman he met by chance in Margate. Amer Mohammed, 24, launched the attack on the Promenade by Margate Seafront in the early hours of Saturday 10 August 2024.

Victim’s Quick Thinking Foils Sick Attack

Kent Police revealed Mohammed approached the woman as she walked alone, invited her to a party, then suddenly attacked her after walking a short distance together. The victim managed to escape and flagged down a car driven by an off-duty Kent Police officer. She was immediately rushed to Margate Police Station to report the horrifying incident.

Fast Police Action Snaps Up Offender

Detectives launched a rapid investigation, quickly identifying Mohammed, an Eritrean national with no fixed address. He was arrested and charged. After a 10-day trial at Canterbury Crown Court, a jury found him guilty of sexual assault on 9 October 2025.

Justice Served: Nine Years Behind Bars

On 18 December 2025, Mohammed was sentenced to nine years in prison.

“This was a traumatic experience for the victim, and we commend the bravery she has shown throughout the trial. Thanks to her courage and the swift actions of our officers, we were able to secure a conviction and ensure justice was served for this violent, sexually motivated crime,” said Detective Constable Chris Harvey.

“Tackling violence against women and girls is a key priority for Kent Police. We will use all powers available to prevent harm, support victims, and bring offenders like Amer to justice.”
