Amer Mohammed, 24, has been jailed for nine years following a brutal sexual assault on Margate Seafront. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday 10 August 2024 on the Promenade by Margate Seafront.

Kent Police reported that Mohammed approached a woman walking alone, invited her to a party, and then suddenly attacked her after they had walked a short distance together. The victim’s quick thinking allowed her to escape and flag down a car driven by an off-duty Kent Police officer. She was immediately taken to Margate Police Station to report the assault.

Following the report, detectives launched a rapid investigation and quickly identified Mohammed, an Eritrean national with no fixed address. He was arrested and charged in connection with the attack.

After a 10-day trial at Canterbury Crown Court, a jury found Mohammed guilty of sexual assault on 9 October 2025. On 18 December 2025, he was sentenced to nine years in prison.

Detective Constable Chris Harvey said, “This was a traumatic experience for the victim, and we commend the bravery she has shown throughout the trial. Thanks to her courage and the swift actions of our officers, we were able to secure a conviction and ensure justice was served for this violent, sexually motivated crime.”

He added, “Tackling violence against women and girls is a key priority for Kent Police. We will use all powers available to prevent harm, support victims, and bring offenders like Amer to justice.”
