A serious assault in Margate town centre sparked a major police response on Saturday afternoon, 21 June. A 32-year-old man remains in custody while four others have been released on bail as the investigation continues.
Emergency services were called to Margate High Street at 2:18pm following reports of an assault at a residential property near the top end of the street. Kent Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service quickly established a police cordon at the scene.
The victim sustained a cut to his arm and was taken to hospital. Police confirmed that his injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.
Kent Police arrested a 32-year-old man from Margate at the scene, who remains in custody as of Monday afternoon. Four others – two men in their 30s, a man in his 40s, and a woman in her 50s – were also detained in connection with the incident but have since been released on bail.
Officers stated that some arrests were made on suspicion of criminal damage, while others relate to assault.
Detectives have launched an ongoing investigation and are urging anyone with information to come forward. They are particularly interested in private CCTV or doorbell camera footage from the area that might provide insight into the violent altercation.
