Thieves were caught red-handed after a stolen car was recovered in Mansfield. Police acted swiftly following reports of a vehicle theft from a Mansfield home.
Officers were called to Fairholme Drive at 9.45am on 28 January after a car was reported stolen. Later that same evening, the stolen vehicle was located abandoned in Keyworth Close following a thorough search of the area.
Detectives noticed two individuals walking nearby—a 33-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman—and stopped them promptly. Although neither was found inside the car, both were arrested on suspicion of motor vehicle theft.
Further investigations revealed that the man was wanted in connection with a burglary that took place just a day earlier on Rosemary Street, Mansfield. He was re-arrested for burglary and for breaching his bail conditions.
Nottinghamshire Police Constable Kate Bottomley commented, “Thanks to the alertness of our officers, we were able to quickly return a stolen car to its owner and arrest two suspects. We understand the deep impact the theft of a vehicle can have, which is precisely why we’re so committed to making reports of this nature as rare as possible.”
She added, “Tracking down this car also led us to a suspect linked to a burglary from the day before. Nobody has the right to break into another person’s home, so we do everything to bring offenders to justice.”
