A man has been jailed for dangerous driving following a fatal crash that claimed the life of his girlfriend, Ariola Hoxhaj. Jordan Moore, 27, from Dickenson Close, N9, was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court to 10 months in prison. Upon release, he must serve an additional 10 months on licence.
The tragic collision occurred just before midnight on 12 November 2018 along Great Cambridge Road. Ariola Hoxhaj, 26, a mother of one from Enfield, lost control of her white Mercedes A250 and crashed into a tree, suffering catastrophic injuries. Emergency services pronounced her dead at the scene.
Jordan Moore was driving a Mercedes CLA45 AMG, valued at around £37,000, and had been travelling in convoy with Ariola at speeds well above the 40mph limit.
Witnesses reported that Moore’s car pulled away from the crash site and parked some distance away, apparently in an attempt to conceal his involvement. He initially told police he did not know who was driving the other vehicle.
Firefighters used specialist equipment to free Ariola’s vehicle, which was embedded in the tree. Moore was charged with causing death by dangerous driving but was found not guilty of this charge. Instead, he was convicted of the lesser offence of dangerous driving.
In addition to his prison sentence, Moore has been banned from driving for two years and ten months and is required to retake an extended driving test. His Mercedes was seized under a Deprivation Order.
Detective Sergeant Jose Qureshi of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit commented, “If there is anything I would want someone to take away from this case it is the devastation that can be caused by dangerous driving. A child will grow up without a mother and a man is behind bars thanks to a moment of madness.”
He added, “I urge all drivers to be considerate and careful road users so that other families are spared the misery which Ariola’s have had to bear.”
