At around 9.20pm, police were alerted to a man carrying weapons on Parr Mount Street, St Helens, believed to be a bottle and a knife. Officers quickly searched the area and spotted the suspect near The Mount Church on Traverse Street.
The 33-year-old man was reportedly aggressive and still armed when officers confronted him. They managed to disarm and detain him. One officer suffered a minor injury during the arrest, but no members of the public were harmed.
Thomas McComish, from Morgan Street, St Helens, has been charged with attempted murder, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of a bladed article in public, and possession of an offensive weapon in public. He is set to appear at Wirral Adult Remand Court today, Thursday 8 December.
