A 50-year-old man remains in critical condition after being struck by a stolen car in a hit-and-run on Crowstone Road, Westcliff. The incident occurred at around 7.30am on Thursday 16 April, when a white Mercedes C-Class, registration YD14 OHT, collided with the pedestrian before speeding away.
Essex Police quickly responded and charged 26-year-old James Wallace, who has no fixed abode, with attempted murder and handling stolen goods. Wallace was remanded in custody and appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 20 April.
Officers are continuing their investigation and are appealing to the public for information. They are particularly interested in anyone who saw the white Mercedes in Sutton Road, Crowstone Road, or Britannia Road on the morning of the incident.
Witnesses are urged to contact Essex Police via their Major Incident Public Portal or by calling 101, quoting incident 177 of 16 April.
“The 50-year-old man received immediate treatment from members of the public, officers, and ambulance service colleagues. He was taken to the hospital, where he remains in a critical condition,” Essex Police stated.
