Police in Liverpool arrested a 32-year-old man on suspicion of rape following a serious sexual assault reported by a 16-year-old girl at a local area known as the ‘cave’ or ‘grotto’ on Croxteth Drive, Liverpool. The incident was reported at 2.35pm on Monday 2 January 2023.

The suspect has since been released on conditional bail while the investigation remains ongoing. The victim is receiving specialist support from detectives experienced in handling such cases.

Detective Inspector Paul McVeigh issued a public appeal for information to assist with the investigation. He said, “We are still appealing for information to help our ongoing investigation. Please get in touch if you can assist and we will respond to all information provided. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously.”

He added, “We understand the serious concern this distressing incident has caused for locals or anyone who frequents the park. We are working hard to complete thorough enquiries quickly and supporting the victim and her family throughout.”

Detective Inspector McVeigh also urged the public, “Please do not speculate or share anything that could hinder police work. Come forward immediately if you know anything.”
