Narinder Kaur, 54, also known as Nina Tiara, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison at Gloucester Crown Court. The Cleverton resident faced 26 charges including fraud, money laundering, and perverting the course of justice.
The court heard that Kaur’s fraudulent activities spanned from 2015 to 2019, during which she stole from high street shops and manipulated refund processes, earning approximately £2,000 per week. This amounted to over £500,000 in stolen goods and fraudulent refunds.
Kaur’s criminal actions extended beyond shoplifting and refund fraud. While under investigation, she used stolen credit card information to defraud businesses across the country.
Steve Tristram, a fraud investigator with West Mercia Police, stated: “This sentence sends a clear message—prolific fraudsters won’t get away with it. Kaur was a calculating criminal who showed no remorse and even tried to trick the court with false documents.”
The investigation began in 2018 as a multi-agency effort involving West Mercia Police, the National Business Crime Solution, and other forces. Their work uncovered fraudulent banking activity that ultimately led to Kaur’s arrest.
Kaur’s criminal record includes being first caught by Wiltshire Police in 2016 for theft. In 2020, hundreds of stolen items and £113,800 in cash were seized from her home near Malmesbury. She was arrested in October 2020 while attempting to scam refunds at a Dunelm store in Swindon.
During the investigation, Kaur threatened Dunelm staff to prevent them from giving witness statements, resulting in an additional charge of intimidation. She repeatedly breached court bail conditions and was caught trying to scam Asda stores in Melksham and Swindon.
Further searches of her properties uncovered £38,000 in cash hidden behind a water heater.
Detective Inspector Tom Straker commented: “Kaur treated crime like her day job, travelling across the country under around 17 aliases. She tried to bully both police and witnesses, but thanks to dedicated officers and public help, she’s now locked up for a long time.”
