GB News has cut ties with actor-turned-politician Laurence Fox after a controversy erupted over his off-air remarks about journalist Ava Evans. The broadcaster received over 8,000 complaints to Ofcom following Fox’s inappropriate and personal comments about the female reporter.
In addition to Fox, GB News also fired presenter Calvin Robinson, who had supported Fox and was initially suspended during the investigation.
Both Fox and Robinson were suspended last week as GB News launched an internal probe into the matter. The investigation concluded quickly, resulting in the termination of their contracts. A GB News spokesperson stated, “Laurence Fox and Calvin Robinson were both suspended last week pending internal investigations that have now concluded. As of today, GB News has ended its employment relationship with Laurence Fox and Calvin Robinson.”
The controversy extended further when presenter Dan Wootton was suspended amid an Ofcom investigation. Wootton’s show on 26 September triggered 8,846 complaints, prompting him to issue a public apology. Angelos Frangopoulos, GB News’ chief executive, described the comments as “not in line with the channel’s values.” Meanwhile, MailOnline, where Wootton contributed columns, has ended his contract.
The situation escalated when Laurence Fox was arrested in London following a police raid on his Stockwell home in south London. The Metropolitan Police confirmed his arrest on suspicion of conspiracy to commit criminal damage to Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) cameras and encouraging offences. He was held overnight at a South London police station.
With multiple presenters involved in controversy, GB News is facing an internal crisis and reputational challenges, leading to staff dismissals as the broadcaster attempts to manage public backlash.
