Dellan Charles, aged 23, has been jailed for life after being convicted of the murder of Sean O’Neill, also 23, in a brutal daylight attack on Reynolds Road, Hayes, on May 18, 2023. The sentencing took place at Kingston Crown Court on March 17, 2024.
The court heard that Charles chased Sean following a clash between rival groups. He cornered Sean in a quiet residential street and launched a savage assault using two knives. Witnesses reported that Charles shouted “die, die, die” as he stabbed Sean multiple times.
CCTV footage later showed Charles calmly walking away from the scene, escaping through nearby suburban gardens in an attempt to avoid capture. One of the knives used in the attack was discarded at a nearby property, which was part of Charles’s deliberate effort to cover his tracks during the subsequent year-long manhunt.
Specialist Crime South detectives led a relentless investigation, which included a nationwide search for Charles. Police intelligence and persistent detective work resulted in his arrest in Coventry on March 27, 2024.
Detective Inspector Kevin Martin paid tribute to Sean’s family, stating: “Myself and the team pay tribute to Sean’s family who have shown incredible strength during this heartbreaking time. Nothing can bring Sean back, but the man responsible has now been forced to face the consequences of his horrific actions.”
Sean’s family expressed their gratitude, saying: “We truly appreciate the efforts of the Metropolitan Police and Crown Prosecution Service for bringing justice. Sean will always be remembered for his big heart, charming smile, and fun-loving personality. We miss him every day.”
Charles must serve a minimum of 23 years before he can apply for parole. This tragic case highlights the deadly consequences of knife crime in London.
