Kent Police have dealt a significant blow to organised crime after seizing over 1,300 kilograms of cannabis in a major operation. The haul, valued at more than £1 million on the streets, was discovered following the stop of a Ford Transit van on Wrotham Road, Gravesend, on the afternoon of Wednesday, 13 November 2024. Inside the vehicle, officers found 500 kilograms of packed cannabis.
The investigation swiftly led to a follow-up raid at a property in Herne Hill, southeast London, where an additional 800 kilograms of cannabis was recovered later that same day. This large-scale drug bust has severely disrupted a major trafficking network operating in the region.
Two men were arrested at the scenes and charged with possession of cannabis with intent to supply. The suspects are Jack Phillips, 69, of Poplar Road, Herne Hill, and Ramesh Tuladhar, 57, of Norcott Road, Stoke Newington. Both appeared before Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 15 November and were remanded in custody. They are due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on a date yet to be confirmed.
A Kent Police spokesperson said, “This significant seizure demonstrates our commitment to disrupting and dismantling organised crime networks that attempt to profit from the illegal drug trade. These operations not only harm individuals but also communities, and we will continue to take robust action to tackle this activity.”
