Kent is facing a surge in illegal street racing and drifting as modified car drivers from neighbouring counties flood into the area. This reckless behaviour is causing chaos and sparking outrage among local communities across the county.
Complaints about nuisance driving have increased significantly in hotspots such as Sevenoaks, New Hythe Lane, Larkfield, the A228 near East Peckham, and Hewitt’s Roundabout near Orpington. Residents report excessive noise pollution, damaged roads, choking fumes, and dangerous driving that is transforming quiet streets into scenes of disorder.
Car meets attracting up to 100 attendees are causing road blockages, with many drivers lacking proper insurance, which further heightens the risks to public safety.
Kent Police have responded by stepping up patrols in these problem areas. Officers will be out in force over the upcoming summer weekend to crack down on those responsible for tyre-scorching disturbances.
Earlier this year, six drivers on Bradbourne Park Road in Sevenoaks received Traffic Offence Reports for dangerous behaviour. On 20 June, Maidstone Magistrates’ Court fined the offenders up to £293 each, with one driver receiving five penalty points on their licence.
Police Sergeant Nick Bottle of the Sevenoaks Local Policing Team warned: “West Kent residents are fed up with the dangers posed by nuisance drivers and their impact on community life. The noise, skids, and toxic fumes force locals to shut windows on hot nights just to get peace. We are watching closely. Anyone caught risks fines, arrests, or vehicle seizures.”
With summer in full swing, Kent residents can expect the police to maintain a strong presence and clamp down hard on these anti-social speed demons.
