Isle of Wight supermarkets have run dry of diesel once again, causing significant disruption for local drivers. For the third time this month, Tesco and Asda forecourts on the island have run out of diesel, leaving motorists struggling to find fuel.
Both Tesco and Asda have displayed signs warning customers that their diesel pumps are empty. Many drivers are now forced to travel as far as Lake to fill up their vehicles. Attempts to secure fresh diesel deliveries on Tuesday were unsuccessful, and no new fuel supplies are expected in the near future.
Meanwhile, Morrison’s has avoided the crisis for now. The supermarket confirmed on Tuesday evening that it still has diesel available on the island, thanks to an alternative mainland supplier who was able to ship in fuel.
Reports indicate that the island’s main fuel wholesaler, Isle of Wight Fuels, has itself run dry. This shortage at the wholesaler level is believed to be the root cause of the diesel scarcity at Tesco and Asda forecourts. Site managers at the affected supermarkets say they are working hard to restore supplies but have not yet confirmed when diesel will be available again.
Tesco is reportedly trying to arrange an alternative supply to ease the shortage, but no timeline for resolution has been provided. Local drivers are left hoping that their next opportunity to refuel will not be months away.
