A tragic stabbing occurred on Westgate Street, Ipswich, when 18-year-old Raymond James Quigley, known as James, was fatally stabbed in broad daylight on Tuesday, January 17th at 3.35pm.
The brutal attack shocked the local community as two men launched the assault on James, who was from Wymondham, Norfolk. During the incident, one suspect chased and threatened another victim with a knife, but fortunately, that individual escaped unharmed. The attackers fled in different directions, leaving chaos behind.
Emergency crews, including police and ambulance services, arrived quickly at the scene. Despite their frantic efforts to save him, James died at the location. A Home Office post-mortem confirmed that he died from four stab wounds to the torso.
Following an intensive investigation, two male teenagers were arrested on Saturday, January 21. Alfie Hammett, 18, of Rushmere St Andrew, and a 17-year-old boy from Ipswich have both been charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. Both remain in custody and are scheduled to appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 24.
The Coroner is currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of death. Police continue to investigate the incident and are urging anyone with information to contact them by calling 101 and quoting CAD 1373/20Jan.
