An inmate at Wormwood Scrubs Prison sparked a fire inside his cell, causing a scare at the Victorian jail located on Du Cane Road.
Firefighters from the London Fire Brigade were called at 2.47pm on Friday after prison staff spotted smoke. However, quick-thinking staff at the jail managed to put out the fire before the fire service arrived.
The Prison Service confirmed that no one was injured in the incident. A spokesperson said: “Staff quickly extinguished cell fire. No-one was injured and the fire brigade were called.”
Fire crews must be called immediately for any fire incidents, ensuring safety remains the top priority at the facility.
