Man Denies Murder After Tragic Essex Hit-and-Run Death

Hayadulla Turkmani, 53, from Langdale Gardens, Essex, has denied the murder of 28-year-old Michael Ashton. Mr Ashton was critically injured in a suspected hit-and-run on Rosecroft Close, Langdon Hills, on Friday, September 26.

He sadly died on October 4. Two weeks later, Essex Police charged Turkmani with murder.

Shocking Court Appearance: Not Guilty Plea Entered

Turkmani appeared at Southend Crown Court on Monday, November 17, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt. Using an Afghan Dari interpreter, he confirmed his identity and pleaded not guilty.

The trial is scheduled for April next year. Judge Samantha Leigh ordered Turkmani to remain in custody ahead of his trial.

“He was loved by everyone and had such a kind soul. He didn’t have a bad bone in his body.”

Michael Ashton worked for Barking and Dagenham Council and leaves behind a devastated family and community mourning his loss.
