PC Gediminas Palubinskas, an officer with Gwent Police, is scheduled to appear at Swansea Magistrates’ Court on May 31. He faces a serious charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The charge stems from an investigation conducted by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). The IOPC examined the use of force during an arrest that took place in Newport on July 9, 2021.

PC Palubinskas remains suspended from duty while the inquiry is ongoing. Gwent Police submitted a conduct referral that initiated the IOPC investigation.

By November 2021, the IOPC had provided evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which subsequently authorised the assault charge against the officer.

This case has brought attention to issues of police conduct and accountability within Gwent, with the future of PC Palubinskas now uncertain as the legal process continues.
