Gravesend police have taken strong action against illegal e-scooter and e-bike riders, seizing nine vehicles in a single day. The operation focused on stopping riders who were using pavements unlawfully, posing significant risks to pedestrians.
Officers patrolled Gravesend town centre on Sunday, 14 December 2025, responding to growing concerns about dangerous riding behaviour. Several suspects were stopped for riding illegally on pavements, which is prohibited by law and endangers bystanders. In total, nine e-scooters and e-bikes were confiscated, and the riders received Traffic Offence Reports at the scene.
In a related incident, a 21-year-old rider was apprehended after refusing to stop on New Road. Kent Police deployed drone support to locate him on Peacock Street. A search revealed cannabis on the individual and additional Class B drugs at his residence. He was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and has been released on bail pending further investigations. His e-scooter was also seized, and he was issued a Traffic Offence Report.
Inspector Tom Elliott of the Gravesend Community Safety Unit issued a warning about illegal riding, stating, “Using e-scooters or e-bikes illegally is not only against the law, it’s dangerous. Riders risk serious injury to themselves and others when travelling on pavements or public roads. These vehicles are only permitted on private land with the landowner’s consent, and there are currently no Government-approved trials in Kent.”
He added, “Anyone caught riding illegally faces enforcement action, including seizure of the scooter and a Traffic Offence Report. We will continue to take action against anyone who flouts the law.”
