Four men have been handed a combined jail term exceeding 100 years for a terrifying attempted murder in Wolverhampton. The victim, aged 45, was shot in the back during a savage chase through Horseley Fields on the night of 18 September 2024.
The incident began when the victim’s grey Mercedes had its tyres slashed outside a pub on Harp Street. As he left the area, the attackers followed him through the streets. The gang then opened fire at Minerva Street, shooting the man in the back.
Amazingly, the victim survived the shooting and was treated in hospital before being discharged.
The four men convicted and their sentences are as follows:
- Richard Beckles, 44, from Telford – 30 years
- Cleon Johnson, 39, from Walsall – 30 years
- Khyle Gayle, 31, from Birmingham – 30 years
- Constantine Campbell, 52, from Tipton – 27 years
A fifth man, Michael Soledolu, was found not guilty.
Detective Inspector Francis Nock from the Major Crime Unit praised the police teamwork involved in the investigation, stating, “Although their intended target survived, shots fired on the street terrify everyone. We won’t stand for this in our towns.” He added, “The criminals used multiple vehicles and pick-up points to cover their tracks. But we pieced it all together. That’s how we secured these tough sentences.”
The convictions are part of Operation Target, the police’s ongoing crackdown on serious organised crime.
