On March 3, 2022, Manchester police’s Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit (TVIU) ended a four-man gang’s crime spree after a high-speed car chase through Gatley. The suspects, driving a stolen vehicle, reached speeds exceeding 100mph before the pursuit was brought to a halt with assistance from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) dog handlers. One of the gang members was even found hiding under a sofa during the arrest.
On Wednesday, March 16, the four men appeared at Manchester Crown Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to multiple offences. Declan McClusky, aged 20, from Wythenshawe, was sentenced to three years and four months for conspiracy to commit burglary, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance. Alan McCabe, 21, also from Wythenshawe, received three years and 11 months for conspiracy to commit burglary. Kade McEwan, 19, of Manchester, was sentenced to one year and ten months for conspiracy to commit burglary. Christopher Ward, 19, from Wythenshawe, was jailed for two years and eight months after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit burglary, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, possession of a bladed article, and cannabis possession.
Detectives from GMP’s Serious Organised Crime Group revealed that the gang was responsible for 13 burglaries and the theft of luxury vehicles including Audis and Porsches. These vehicles were stolen from car parks, town centres, and private driveways across Manchester. The stolen cars were frequently used to facilitate further burglaries, causing distress among local residents.
Detective Constable Chris Bromley commented, “This group were prolific thieves committing intrusive crimes, breaking into homes, and stealing cars from drives – leaving victims stranded and vulnerable. They showed reckless disregard for public safety with dangerous driving. But no matter how organised a gang thinks they are, we’re committed to using all resources to put these criminals behind bars.”
