Paul Read, once from Morehall Avenue in Folkestone, was arrested on December 17, 2021, after police were informed that a young girl had been sexually assaulted earlier that month.

The disturbing offences did not end there. Details soon emerged revealing that Read, now 40 years old, had also raped the victim during a horrific ordeal at her own home.

Kent Police launched a comprehensive investigation, which led to Read being charged with two sexual offences related to this case.

Following a trial, Read was found guilty of rape and sexual assault. On Friday, July 5, 2024, he was sentenced to 11 years in prison at Canterbury Crown Court.

Detective Constable Gemma Chadwick of East Kent’s Vulnerability Investigation Team said: “Read has shown no remorse and denied his crimes, which forced this case to trial. I praise the victim’s bravery in bringing him to justice. This sentence hopefully brings her some closure. We remain committed to prosecuting sexual offenders.”
