Folkestone Man Jailed Over Brutal Taxi Driver Stabbing
A Folkestone man has been locked up for more than six years after launching an unprovoked knife attack on a taxi driver.
Shocking Knife Assault on Guildhall Street
Amir Sharifrazy lost it on the evening of Friday 5 July 2019. After shouting at the taxi driver for stopping to pick up a fare, Sharifrazy went home, grabbed a knife, then smashed his way through the car window. Despite the driver locking his doors and closing windows, Sharifrazy punched through the glass before lunging into the cab and stabbing the man in the chest.
The 51-year-old driver fended off further attacks by shutting the window quickly. But Sharifrazy didn’t stop there – he waved his knife around, kicked the car, and demanded the driver get out before storming off home.
Police Snatch Sharifrazy at Home & Witness Past Aggression
Officers found Sharifrazy still at home and arrested him. The victim needed hospital treatment but survived the horrific assault.
Further investigation uncovered that Sharifrazy had hassled the taxi driver twice before on 26 June. On the first encounter, he bizarrely snapped photos of the cab and claimed the driver would “soon be famous.” Later the same day, he returned to shout abuse.
Six-and-a-Half Years for Wounding with Intent
At Canterbury Crown Court, Sharifrazy admitted to wounding with intent, knife possession, and criminal damage. On 12 March 2020, he was sentenced to six and a half years behind bars, plus three years on licence once released.
Detective Sergeant Robert Goodban said: “It was an extraordinary and serious assault by Sharifrazy against someone who had done nothing to provoke that response.”
“The victim was simply doing his job. This terrifying attack was uncalled for, and I hope the sentence reassures him and the community that Sharifrazy can no longer harm anyone.”
