Fisherman Max Maguire was fatally stabbed in October 2021 outside a nightclub in Lymington. The 21-year-old Draven Jewell was found guilty of manslaughter but cleared of murder in the shocking case.
The trial at Winchester Crown Court revealed that a fight broke out after a dispute regarding Garon Jewell’s age and a nitrous oxide canister that Draven brought to the club but refused to sell. The altercation involved two groups, including Max and his friends Luke Gray and Ms Hole.
Draven Jewell was found guilty of manslaughter for stabbing Max Maguire. He was acquitted of attempted murder charges related to Luke Gray but was convicted of wounding him. Jewell also wounded Ms Hole, though charges for a further assault were dropped. He admitted to carrying a Huusk chef’s knife, which was the weapon used in the attack. Garon Jewell, aged 19, was cleared of all charges after the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence.
Luke Gray, 23, suffered two severe stab wounds to his lower back that required urgent hospital treatment. Ms Hole, 23, was also stabbed in the chest but sustained less serious injuries.
“Max Maguire died within moments from a wound he received to the left side of his chest, a knife wound, this had penetrated his lung and damaged a major artery internally and caused catastrophic and non-survivable injuries,” said prosecutor Adam Feest QC.
Draven Jewell told the court he acted in self-defence, fearing for his brother Garon’s life during the violent skirmish outside the club.
