A man who pretended to be a taxi driver before sexually assaulting a woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. Derbyshire Police have confirmed the disturbing case that affected residents in Sheffield and Chesterfield.

In the spring of 2025, the victim was out with a friend in Sheffield. After leaving the club alone, she believed she had secured a legitimate taxi to take her home. Shabir Sultani, posing as a taxi driver, offered her a ride.

During the journey, Sultani gave the woman vodka, which she refused. However, the ordeal escalated when they arrived at her home in Chesterfield. Despite her pleas for him to leave, Sultani forced his way inside and committed the assault.
