Two police officers from Devon and Cornwall Police are facing charges of common assault following an incident in Exeter. Pc Emmit Wookey, aged 30, and Pc Liam Dunn, aged 27, will appear before magistrates after an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
The incident occurred on March 19, 2023, in Exeter city centre. The officers stopped and searched a man on New North Road, near Longbrook Street. This encounter led to a complaint being filed, prompting the IOPC to launch a detailed investigation.
The IOPC completed its probe in September and submitted its findings to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). The CPS authorised charges of common assault against both Pc Wookey and Pc Dunn under Section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988.
