Drama unfolded in Cowes just after midnight on Tuesday, 24 July, when an 18-year-old man was stabbed twice in the back near Love Lane and Windmill Close. Police quickly responded to reports of the serious assault.
The victim, a local Cowes resident, was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital. Thankfully, medics have confirmed his injuries are not life-threatening, though he remains under medical care.
Police arrested and charged 23-year-old Macauley Watterston, a former Sainsbury’s employee from Newport’s Laundry Lane. He faces a serious charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and is due to appear in Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 27 July.
In addition, three other men were arrested in connection with the incident but have since been released without charge. A 23-year-old man from Carisbrooke was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm but released and remains under investigation. Another 23-year-old man from Newport was arrested for grievous bodily harm and cannabis possession but was also released without charge; his case is ongoing. A 23-year-old man with no fixed address faced the same suspicion of grievous bodily harm, was released without charge, and remains under investigation.
Police continue to investigate the violent stabbing that shook Cowes in the early hours of 24 July.
